Sarasota Manatee Go Tournament, Jan 24-25

The AGA event calendar lists that there will be a two-day tournament in Sarasota next month.  I emailed Lanny Searcy, the tournament director, who responded right away.  I’ll post more information when I get it, but for now:

  • Open tournament for AGA members
  • Location is New College in Sarasota, FL
  • January 24th & 25th (Sat. & Sun.)

Shall we start kicking around the who’s thinking of going / who wants to carpool questions?  I’ll try to have an answer for myself on those questions tomorrow night (club meeting).

  1. Lanny Searcy responded with a flyer for the tournament, the information on that follows. He also requests that we RSVP so he has some idea how many participants there will be.

P.S. Please bring boards/stones and clocks. We will not have sufficient sets for a large turnout. Thanks.

  2. The tournament went very well! Josh, Anthony, Jeff, Philip, John, and I attended from Go Orlando. There were 16 participants, so we were quite a strong presence in terms of attendance. Josh was the only one of us to make the top three (he came in second with a 5-2 record … congrats, Josh!).

Philip also did well, ranking fourth in the tournament with an SOS (sum of opponents’ scores) just 1 pt under the third-place finisher! He was also 5-2, as was I (I took fifth).

So we also had a strong showing in terms of play. It was a great tournament, and many thanks to Lanny for organizing it!

Oh, and we played without clocks! And it went fine.
