The CGS Meeting Reports

Current Scheduled Game Meeting

The CGS mailing thread was duplicated on the site until April 28, 1988.  Due to the volume, such a record was ceased in favor of a simple report of each meeting (the list itself continutes, but copies of the messages are not updated on the site).  The record of the mailing list until April 28 is still available.  For information about the list, see the CGS Information page.

Skip to the bottom of this page, which is arranged chronologically.

Meeting 1: Saturday, February 7, 1998.

Host:    Steve Khoeler
Game:  Colonial Diplomacy

We had a good game of Colonial Dip last night at the first meeting of the Charlotte Gaming Society.  Harry, Steve C., Tom, Dave, Paul, Jennifer, and I had a good time.  Tom, Harry, Steve C. and Jenn were in the lead when we decided to call the game for darkness.

Thanks to everyone for coming.  There was some discussion about our next meeting.  A tentative date for the next meeting is MARCH 7, 1998.

Steve

Meeting 2: Saturday, March 21, 1998.

Host:    Harry Culpan
Game:  Britannia

Dear CGS Members and other interested parties:

We had an enjoyable game of Britannia at the last meeting of the Charlotte Gaming Society.  I squeaked out a one-point victory over
Jennifer!

We tentatively discussed having our next get-to-gether on April 25. Steve Chilcotte suggested that he might host.

Harry

Meeting 3: Saturday, May 2, 1998.

Host:    Jennifer Romanski
Game:  Illuminati (the card game)

We met on May 2, 1998.  Jennifer Romanski was Hostess.  Thanks!

Ron McClung, president of the UNCC Sci-Fi and Fantasy Guild, avid gamer, and OK guy, stopped by with some of his fellow Guilders and told us about the Guild's activities.  Later, we played a rousing game of Illuminati, with Harry winning with the Network.

Heath and Charles Gardner came all the way from Raleigh to game with us.  Thanks guys and I hope you make it down again in the future!

We spoke a bit about DixieCon, which takes place over Memorial Day weekend in Chapel Hill, NC.  Perhaps Dave Hood will send an e-mail to the CGS mail list to let everyone know about that Con?  I'll be going, as well as Heath and Charles and maybe Harry.

Next Meeting: May 30th  and  June 6th  are the only Saturdays I have open until July.  What do you guys think?

Steve

Meeting 4: Saturday, July 11, 1998.

Host:    Ron McClung
Game:  MegaSupremacy

July 11th, I invited the members of the CGS as will as some members of the Guild to play MegaSurpemacy, a very large scale world domination game.  I have run this game only about once a year, simply because, one,  it's so hard to find good and patient players, and two, it take so much to run (time, energy, planning...)  Well, I have to say it was well worth all the effort last Saturday.  The players that showed made it even easier to run the game, and I look forward to playing it again.  Normally it is so difficult to get the game flowing that I have to step back, and be a gamemaster for the game and not play a country.  These guys caught on so fast, that I was able to play a superpower.  These guys really got into it, a really intense game, the way MS is supposed to be.  I have to thank the guys for being such great players. Steve Koeller (sp?), Harry Culpin, John Reavis, Mike Goines; all were great players and we had a GREAT time.  Steve played Europe, Harry played China, I played S. America, John played USA, and Mike played Africa.  The world was our playground.  China and Europe took the quick lead in the beginning.  MS is a game of economic and military domination, with a lot of covert actions behind the scenes.  China had the military upper hand when they developed nukes first, Europe landed a great sale on the market of it's extra resources, which gave it A LOT of extra cash.  But this did not seal the fates of the rest of us.  It was a long game.  We played from about 2 pm to about 1 am... and got through about 6 turns.  Like I said, it's a LARGE scale game.  There is a lot covered in MS.  We ended the game in a massive nuclear and conventional
exchange, after tensions bulit between all countries.  SDI satellites up for sale, sabotges and assassinations, nuclear missiles and neutron bombs
going off, superpowers collapsing.  S America and Africa took the brunt of the attacks, and it was finally Europe, China and America who slugged it out.  S America was over taken by America, Africa for a short time was occupied.  China was as well.  When the numbers were all counted, the bodies taken away, the fallout settled, it looked as though it was a draw between Europe and Africa.  Because Africa didn't spend all it's money on research, and because Europe kept getting lucky with the market, they both had about equal points in the end.

So we laid waste to the world and loved every minute of it.

I will announce the next game pretty soon, perhaps in Sept or Oct.  We have to recover for now.

So from the deposed leader of the South America Confederation, I thank everyone for allowing me the opportunity to have my ass nuked to hell.

:-)

Good gaming

Ron
